Education is our signature in our small university community. Four public schools and one private school serve approximately 1,570 students. St. Mary’s School, a k-8 parochial school, mixes religious instruction with a core academic curriculum for 110 students.

The Wilkins Early Learning Center provides Platteville’s youngest with a great start in school designed to address the early learning needs of children age 3-6. Second and third grade students develop their academic skills and related arts in a rich school environment at Westview Elementary School where parent-teacher-student relationships are actively nurtured. An award winning middle school provides a solid academic foundation while addressing the unique learning and social needs of young adolescent student’s grades 4-8. And an innovative, hands on pre-engineering Project Lead The Way curriculum is part of student learning in grades 7 and 8 so as to continue to higher level science, technology, engineering, and math courses that become available at the high school.

Our School District ranked in the top 30 of Wisconsin Schools and #200 in the nation for preparing students for college with Platteville High School ranked #2 in the state.

  • The NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation recognized Platteville’s outstanding commitment to music education with a Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) designation.
  • Successfully passed a $15 million facilities referendum with nearly 70% of community support.

More Than Just Textbooks

Platteville schools offer a wide range of extra curricular activites to choose from.

Nearly 75% of the professional staff at our k-12 schools have Master’s Degrees or higher. An acclaimed music program provides choral, band and orchestra performance opportunities and an array of extra-curricular academic and athletic programs provide students with avenues to pursue special interests.

Post-secondary education is pursued by 85% of Platteville High School graduates at either baccalaureate or technical colleges. Also available is a cooperative education program that provides specialized instruction, apprenticeships and other work experience opportunities for those who plan to enter the work force directly after high school. Platteville High School is considered an innovator in the use of digital technology and graduates are well prepared to succeed in a technological society. As in a small town, the wealth of extracurricular activities provides students many opportunities to explore artistic, athletic, academic and vocational leadership pursuits in where everyone can participate!

Platteville's connection to NASA.

Platteville City Schools are in the backyard of local University of Wisconsin PLatteville (UWP), known as a top Engineering School in the state. In conjunction with forward thinking teachers (many of who went to UWP) students have an opportunity to grow their skills directly with 21st century technology and minds.
